We arranged a private boat charter with Captain Karen at www.venuscharters.com We wanted to see some dolphin, snorkel on some reefs and motor back to port at sunset. While we snorkeled, Jack stayed on board and we saw huge rays, a nurse shark, baracuda, loggerhead sea turtles and dozens of salt water fish. Captain Karen snorkeled with us carrying her speargun in case dinner swam by.
We were returning to
shore at sunset when we came upon a large pod of dolphin. Captain Karen stopped the
boat and we watched. I started calling to them like I would to a puppy,
Josh was tapping the boat; Captain Karen said that they rarely came
near. Maybe it was the little dog in the turtle collar that they wanted
a better look at, because they did come near. Three groups swam right
alongside the boat, right where we were, rolled on their sides and had a
good look at us. It was thrilling.
